A round of applause?
I wanted to give Julie a quick thanks for running this blog. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t contributed, and she does a wonderful job. I’m happy we have this amazing decoden community here online! Thanks Julie :) <3
do ya'll know how to make those "cameos" i think is what it's called. those circular charms with pictures in it? please & thanks@Anonymous
Ticia here! I actually learned how to make those (I sell them in my shop etsy.com/shop/decoutureboutique) by watching youtube videos. Just look for resin photo pendants. We don’t like giving all of our secrets away, ya know ;)
Hello! I've just got into the hobby of deco den a few months ago, and I have been using Alex Dap Plus up until reading your FAQ. I usually aim for a bright white shade of color (Although it seems the Alex Dap in Brilliant White has a rather gray discoloration to it) Anyways, what I'm asking is brand of silicone do you use to get that lovely white finish?@picotan-deactivated20130320
Ticia here! I know we get the silicone question a LOT, and would normally direct to FAQ…. buuuuut you brought up something I really wanted to answer!
I tried Alex Dap Plus a long while ago, and honestly… HATED IT! It came out SO ugly and definitely not white. Also, it would not stay molded the way I piped it… it lost its shape quite easily. It wasn’t squishy at all, but rather hard. I was seriously disappointed. It frustrated me that a majority of decoden videos on YouTube with a lot of views recommend people to use Alex Dap, because to me it’s a horrible idea.
Stick with a 100% silicone from your local hardware store. NOT acrylic. Just silicone. Brilliant white! 100% silicone is usually for kitchen/bath- look closely and it will surely say “100% silicone”.
It really doesn’t matter what brand.
Hope that helps!
